Plumas charter school’s outdoor education program is awarded a near half-million dollar grant. The California state parks outdoor equity program awards grants to help underserved communities participate in outdoor experiences in state parks and other public lands. The school’s outdoor education coordinator made the effort to apply for the grant to help with Wildfire trauma from the Dixie Fire in Indian Valley. The hope is to get children outdoors in areas where there is no negative history and reconnect them to the outdoors. With the grant the school will be able to hire a coordinator and assistant for the program and fund activities and field trips including camping in state and national parks, planting native trees and flowers on burnt properties, skills classes, wilderness first aid certifications, and winter sports activities. Students from Plumas Charter Schools in Chester and Quincy along with those in Indian Valley will be able to participate.
