State Water Board to Pay Off Wastewater Utility Bills as Part of COVID Relief

Relief is on the way from the state for wastewater past due bills. The State Water Resources Control Board has provided over $300 million to drinking water systems for past-due bills, that helped over a half million Californians who experienced COVID-19 economic hardships. Within the city of Susanville over 70,000 dollars of water bill debt was paid off. Now that across the state all of the eligible drinking water debt has been fully recovered, the state water board will now focus on covering pandemic-related debt for wastewater bills. Remaining funds will be used to help your waste water utility debt. With initial payments approved on March 2, all payments will go out by mid-May. The deadline for water systems to apply is April 1. California implemented the blanket statewide moratorium on water shutoffs back in April of 2020 to December 31 of last year.
