Feather River College will host a prescribed fire burn training exercise in the coming weeks and again in April. The event is called Cal-TREX, short for “prescribed fire TRaining EXchange,” and will be held March 25-27, and April 9-10. Fire professionals and people seeking knowledge will join together to learn the benefits of good fire through the “All Hands, All Lands” approach. The effort is being made to increase the number of qualified people able to work on professional prescribed fire projects. The training is peer-to-peer learning and will include actual burns on different lands locally. This model supports local prescribed fire groups like the Plumas Underburn Cooperative (PUC). The people who attend the training can include landowners, college students earning their basic firefighter qualifications, and seasoned fire professionals who want to gain experiences to qualify as a burn boss or specialized incident command positions.
