Supplemental COVID paid sick leave may be returning. Governor Newsom and state legislators in a response to the continued surge in positive cases have agreed on a framework to extend the paid sick leave to September of this year. The prior deal expired September of last year for employers with over 25 employees. The framework would include additional funding for the Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program, will increase the testing capacity and support frontline workers. It would also give workers the ability to access up to two weeks of supplemental paid sick leave if they contract COVID or have to care for a relative who has the virus. A finalized deal has yet to be set, though the deal is likely to be fast tracked to the governor’s office in the next few weeks.
