On Tuesday, Blue Water Recycling Corp held a planning meeting to discuss the proposed new recycling center in Johnstonville. Despite some opposition from community members concerned about the building site, the project was approved in a narrow 3-2 vote. While the decision allows construction to proceed, it remains subject to potential appeal.
The new facility, set to be located at the intersection of Diamond Crest and Johnstonville Road next to the CHP office, promises to serve Lassen County’s recycling needs for years to come. Residents may recall a time when the county had no recycling center available—a situation this project aims to rectify with a modern solution.
This upcoming center will be a self-contained, indoor facility featuring cutting-edge technology. Blue Water Recycling Corp will be the third recycling center in California to operate the latest AI optical sorting equipment and the first in Northern California to do so. This advanced system will eliminate the need for customers to sort their recyclables. All cans, bottles, glass, and other CRV (California Redemption Value) containers can be placed together in the same bags. The machines will scan and count each container accurately, ensuring customers are paid precisely based on the count, not estimated weights.
The new technology will also improve customer experience by allowing up to three customers to redeem CRV containers simultaneously, significantly reducing wait times and lines. Blue Water Recycling Corp hopes this efficient and user-friendly process will encourage more community members to participate in recycling efforts.
The company is asking for continued community support as it moves forward with this important project to enhance CRV redemption services in Lassen County.
For updates on the project and any potential appeals, residents are encouraged to stay informed through local channels.
