At approximately 4:17 PM Plumas County Search and Rescue was paged out for a snow boarding accident at Plumas Eureka State park, near the ski bowl. Plumas Eureka Fire and SAR responded and located the subject, who had ridden into bare dirt and debris and possibly broken bones in foot and ankle. The subject was able to call 911 and through that contact SAR was able to locate them via mapping very quickly. SAR and Plumas Eureka Fire were able to transport the patient to a waiting ambulance for further care and treatment. Many thanks to Plumas Eureka Fire and Eastern Plumas ambulance medics for their swift and professional service. The Plumas Ski Club provided access and assistance with the extraction.
We would like to remind the backcountry public, that this year has challenging snow conditions, snow is variable, thin, avalanche prone, and has had many freeze/thaw cycles. Explore with a buddy, not by yourself and always be prepared for adverse conditions and terrain.
Special thanks also to Plumas County Sheriff’s office Dispatch; which relayed all of the important details immediately, accurately, and across all of our methods of communication; this allowed for accurate and rapid response.
