The grandstands may be gone, but baseball is returning to Frank Ernaga Field.
After months of visible changes to Frank Ernaga Field and the loss of its historic wooden bleachers, the Lassen Cougars are set to host their home opener this week in Susanville.
The changes to the field followed the removal of the long-standing grandstands, a structure that had been a familiar part of the local sports landscape for decades. While the seating is no longer in place, the field itself remains ready for play.
The Cougars opened their season with 19 consecutive road games, traveling by bus and playing in visiting ballparks as their home field underwent changes. Despite the extended stretch away, the team maintained its full schedule and continued regular competition.
Now, the Cougars are preparing to return home. Lassen will face Butte College Roadrunners in their home opener at 1 p.m. Friday at Frank Ernaga Field.
With no permanent grandstand seating currently available, spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs and find viewing spots along the fence line.
College officials and supporters say the return marks an important moment for the team and the community, signaling that while the setting may look different, local baseball traditions continue.
