For those in the Mohawk Vista and Graeagle area, or traveling on Hwy 70 or 89, pile burning operations expected starting Feb 25th.

Firefighters are planning to resume pile burning operations this week on the Plumas National Forest Beckwourth Ranger District, conditions permitting.

Approximately 15 acres of hand piles located north of California State Highway 70 near Mohawk Vista are planned for ignitions tomorrow. On Friday, approximately 1 acre of large machine piles on Grizzly Ridge will be treated if conditions remain favorable.

Smoke is expected to be visible in the area but not have significant long-term impacts to nearby communities, including Graeagle, Mohawk Vista, California State Highways 70 and 89 and the surrounding area.

There will be increased firefighting equipment traffic in the area and traveling on Highways 70 and 89, particularly in the morning and evening hours. Drivers in the area should use caution, watch for fire equipment exiting and entering area roadways, and possible slow traffic.

If weather conditions become unfavorable, including increased or gusty winds in the area, burning will stop until conditions improve. Firefighters will be monitoring conditions throughout operations.
