A fully engulfed structure fire was reported at 12:39 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at a residence on Crestler Street in Cedarville. The family escaped unharmed but lost their home and all belongings.
According to Barb Hill of the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department, multiple engines and personnel from the Cedarville and Lake City volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze. As of Monday evening, crews had logged approximately 13 hours on scene and used an estimated 30,000 gallons of water.
The fire continued to smolder Monday night, with occasional flare-ups. Hill said hot spots remain due to building collapses and underground dugouts. Additional equipment was expected to arrive Tuesday morning, allowing crews access to all areas of the structure. Firefighters anticipate all remaining smoke and flames will be extinguished by Tuesday evening.
Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department personnel continue to monitor the scene.
“Our thoughts go out to our community members who have lost so much,” Hill said on behalf of the department.
