According to USGS,  A moderate earthquake occurred at 9:49:31 PM (PST) on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The magnitude 4.9 event occurred 14 km (9 miles) NNW of Susanville, CA.
The hypocentral depth is 5 km ( 3 miles).

This is the second earthquake in the Willow Creek Valley northwest of Susanville in as many days.

The USGS reported the first quake at 4:41 on Sunday afternoon and registered it at a magnitude 5.0.

Both quakes have had multiple, smaller aftershocks but the event last night was larger than the first with some folks wondering if more and even larger quakes could be on the horizon.

The area where these quakes have been occurring is directly on a known fault line that runs directly along round valley reservoir from Eagle Lake southeast to 139. In fact there are many fault lines in our area, some as close as between Susanville and the base of the Diamond mountains to the southwest.

Minimal damage was reported from the first quake and we have gotten reports of items falling from shelves in town to more significant damage to the rural areas of Willow Creek Valley in the Horse Lake Rd area.

The tremblors were felt as far away as Red Bluff and Chico in the valley to Reno and northern Nevada to the east.
