A brush fire that broke out in fields near McDonald’s on Main Street in Susanville Sunday afternoon prompted a multi-agency response and briefly shut down Riverside Drive due to heavy smoke.
According to dispatch traffic, initial reports came in around midday on July 5. Callers reported hearing a loud “pop” just before seeing flames ignite in the field. It has not been confirmed whether that sound is related to the origin of the fire.
Fire crews from multiple agencies responded and were able to quickly knock down the flames before they could spread beyond the grassy area.
Heavy smoke in the immediate area led to a temporary closure of Riverside Drive while firefighters worked to secure the scene and ensure public safety.
The fire was contained without any reported injuries or damage to nearby structures. No official release on the cause of the fire has been issued at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
