CAL FIRE uses prescribed burns—carefully planned and controlled fires—to help keep our communities and forests healthy.
Reduces wildfire risk by removing built-up vegetation (fuel)
Promotes new growth and restores native plant species
Improves wildlife habitat by creating diverse landscapes
Enhances watershed health by improving soil and water quality
Protects communities through safer, more resilient landscapes
In the month of September, CAL FIRE Lassen Modoc Unit was able to burn 2,699 acres of vegetation, including 2,007 acres in the Ash Creek Wildlife Area, where the project focused on improving habitat for local wildlife.
Prescribed fire is one of the most effective tools we have to reduce the intensity of future wildfires and support the long-term health of our ecosystems.
