It’s rodeo week in Quincy. Feather River College is gearing up to host its annual college rodeo Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 and 4 at the Plumas County Fairgrounds. The event is the first of the 2025-2026 season for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s West Coast region. The FRC rodeo is the first of 10 college rodeos held between October and May, culminating in the College National Finals at Casper, Wyoming in June.

“We strive to put on a great event for the community,” said coach Zack Brown. The rodeo is also a great opportunity for student athletes to compete and show their talent.

Week packed with events

Festivities beginning Wednesday, Oct. 1 with the annual tri-tip dinner, to be held at the Tulsa Scott building in the Plumas County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $35 for adults, free for children 12 and under. It’s also an opportunity for the community to meet the student athletes. Proceeds go to support the rodeo team, including scholarships and equipment necessary to perform at a high level, said Brown.

Thursday, 0ct. 2 will see a kickoff party at Rich Bar Taproom from 5-8 p.m., as 220 student athletes stream into town for the event, along with their coaches, family and fans.

The rodeo begins in earnest Friday morning. Rodeo slack events begin at 8 a.m. These qualifying events narrow the field to the 10 top riders in each category, who will compete in the evening performance at 5:30 p.m.

Community support and the support of local businesses is vital to a successful event, Brown said.
