Update, due more accurate mapping the Howard’s fire has been mapped at approximately 30 acres.
Earlier this afternoon Modoc National Forest fire resources responded to a fire that was visible from Highway 139, above Howards Gulch on the north side of the highway.
Please continue to avoid the fire area while firefighting personnel, fire equipment and aircraft work to contain the fire

Modoc National Forest fire resources are currently on the scene of a new fire visible from Highway 139, above Howards Gulch on the north side of the highway. The Howards fire has spread to approximately 100 acres and is being driven by winds from nearby thunderstorms.
Please avoid the fire area while firefighting personnel, fire equipment and aircraft work to contain the fire. We will provide further updates on this post as more information becomes available.
