Incident Start: October 2nd, 2026
Cause: Human Caused – Under Investigation
Size: 1,529 acres
Containment: 56%
Personnel Assigned: 225
Current Situation: Firefighters made significant progress on the Bull Fire yesterday, increasing containment to 56%, while the fire remains at 1,529 acres. Fire behavior remains minimal, with creeping and smoldering primarily within the fire perimeter. Crews continue to strengthen and secure containment lines, patrol the perimeter, and conduct mop-up operations. Remaining heat is being located and extinguished, particularly in heavier fuels and areas of steep, difficult-to-access terrain.
As suppression efforts progress, resources are also assessing areas of the fire for needed suppression repair. This includes identifying impacts from suppression activities and determining where repair work will be needed to reduce erosion and other impacts to natural resources. Crews will continue working to secure the fire within its current perimeter while completing suppression repair where needed.
Aircraft continue to support suppression efforts, particularly in areas that are difficult to access from the ground. As aviation resources continue working over the fire, the public is reminded that unauthorized drones create a serious safety hazard for firefighters and aircraft. Remember – if you fly, we can’t.
Weather and Fire Behavior: Sunny, warm and dry conditions are expected today, with temperatures reaching around 80 degrees. Winds will remain light, generally out of the east at 3 – 7 mph. Dry conditions and limited overnight moisture recovery are expected to continue through much of the week. Although fire behavior remains minimal, heavier fuels may continue to hold heat within the fire perimeter.
Evacuations, Closures & Safety: All evacuation warnings have been lifted. Residents in affected areas should continue to monitor official evacuation information for changing conditions. For the most current evacuation zones and warnings, visit emergencywashoe.com.
There is a forest closure order in place for the Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest. For forest closure information please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/humboldt-toiyabe. PLEASE avoid the Bull Fire area and keep roads clear for emergency responders.
Smoke: Smoke may remain visible from the Bull Fire throughout the day. Dust devils may also be visible from surrounding communities as winds increase and may appear similar to smoke columns from a distance. For current air quality information, visit the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map.
