Caltrans and contractors are beginning to break down the large boulders across state route 70, a step toward reopening the highway since its closure earlier this month.
Active rock scaling and debris material breakdown operations are underway at two key slide locations. These critical efforts focus on addressing the slide about 3 miles east of the Butte/Plumas County line and the one occurring between Twain and the Greenville Wye. Additionally, Caltrans District 3 has been diligently working on addressing the slide in their jurisdiction near Cresta.
Despite the concerted efforts, there is still no definitive timeline for reopening the affected roadway. Crews continue to labor around the clock to reinstate 24/7 one-way traffic control at the slide areas. However, the timeline for achieving this goal remains contingent upon future weather conditions, ongoing activity, and ensuring the area’s safety.
