A Caltrans project will make Greenville green again after the devastation of the Dixie Fire in 2021. When the fire tore through in early August it destroyed nearly three-quarters of the town, including homes and many businesses, leaving behind only a few trees and surrounding vegetation.
The Clean California Greenville Landscaping Project will plant trees and shrubs and install irrigation along State Route 89 in downtown Greenville. This project aims to enhance and help bring back the small, vibrant community.
Caltrans District 2 Director Dave Moore stated, “It has been truly inspiring to witness Greenville come together in the wake of the Dixie Fire,” said Caltrans District 2 Director Dave Moore. “The Greenville Landscaping Project will bring more color and life to the streets of Greenville by replacing some of the trees and plants that were lost.”
The project is funded through Governor Newsoms Clean California Program, costing around 600,000, and is anticipated to be completed around the end of August with no need for traffic control. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held following the project’s completion.
