California gets the most significant piece of the pie to update its grid resilience. U.S. Senator Alex Padilla made the 67 million dollar announcement that has been awarded through the Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants program aimed to push for more clean energy projects. This funding – included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and modeled after Padillas 2021 Power On Act, is an effort to minimize the impacts of extreme weather and natural disasters on the state’s electrical grid while ensuring all homes in the state get the benefits of clean, safe, affordable, and reliable energy, particularly those in disadvantaged communities and those with critical energy resilience needs.
Padilla said, “As once-in-a-generation weather events test the resiliency of our grid, these life-saving investments will ensure families … are not left in the dark.”
Over the next five years, $2.3 billion will be distributed to States, Territories, and tribes based on population size, land area, probability and severity of disruptive events, and an area’s historical expenditures on mitigation efforts.
