PG&E sets big goals in response to reduce wildfire risk with permanent reductions measures in the company’s newly released 2022 Wildfire Mitigation Plan. With both long term and near term solutions PGE aims to underground 175 miles of power lines and expand enhanced power line safety settings throughout high fire risk areas this year alone. PG&E also has a goal of undergrounding 3600 miles of powerlines within the next 4 years. Also within the year nearly 100 wildfire cameras will be added to the already 500 existing cameras. With another 100 weather stations added to equate to one station per 20 line miles through high fire risk areas. Furthermore PG&E poles will be replaced with stronger poles and covered lines on nearly 500 miles of distribution power lines. PG&E expects the wildfire mitigation plan to have little to no impact to your utility bill over the next three years as funds for the activities have been accounted for.
