Lake Almanor Fishing Report 5/29/24

SHARE NOW

The lake level has gained 1/10 ft this week, Almanor now sits at 4493.30 ft. The high level has picked up a lot of debris previously deposited on the shore line and scattered it across the surface so boaters beware. Water temperatures are running in the high 50’s to lower 60’s thanks to the warmer conditions. The trout have been directing much of their attention towards the aquatic bug hatches, but still tend to take an easy pond smelt snack when presented with the opportunity. Popular bites this week were found at various areas on both the east and west shores. With the bite being wide open at times. Boats were heavily focused on the areas of Almanor West and the red bank. Slow trolled worms and plastics as well as fast trolled hardware were hooking a mix of good quality Browns, Bows and a few salmon from the surface to 35 feet. For the fly anglers, nymphs under indicators seem to be preferred as the a lot of fish focus their attention on the bug hatches and the larvae rising up off the bottom. The tributaries to Almanor, the Feather River, Bailey Creek and Hamilton Branch all still are seeing elevated spring runoff flows, the super ditch is now just a trickle. Look for some elevated bass fishing activity as The Bam Pro Tour will be here at Almanor from 5/31-6/2. We have a good looking forecast coming up with highs in the upper 70’s to 80’s, time to get your spring fishing on.
