Lake Almanor Fishing Report 1/24/25
The lake level has varied little in the last several weeks and currently sits at just over 4485.
Water temperatures are running in the mid 30’s. The cool overnight temperatures combined with light winds have some ice forming up, especially in protected and shaded coves. The open water in west basin is also building ice on some mornings, which is not uncommon under these conditions. Most of the ice melts off throughout the day. Recent outings and reports indicate trout have been caught both from boats and from shore. Slow trolled worms, plastics and trolling flies are the preferred baits in the 20 to 35 foot range. Several areas along the lake’s east shore from the dam to Dorado have been giving up fish along with areas on both the east and west side of the peninsula like Rec 1, Rec 2 and A-frame. Hamilton Branch has been pushing some dirty water reducing water clarity the closer you get to the mouth. Hearty bank anglers have been seeing some action in the coves of the west shore fishing bait, inflated crawlers seem to be preforming the best. Traffic on the lake has been very light with a slight bump later in the mornings and afternoons that have been dominated by flat glass water and sunshine.
The Canyon Dam Boat Ramp is currently open and useable and is now the only public boat launch with a dock available. As always, keep an eye on the weather forecast, especially this time of year, and be prepared.
