CHP reports that 36-year-old Joseph Martinez of Crescent Mills found himself in the middle of a yawn while driving his car into an intersection in Quincy. The yawn caused his eyes to water leading him to unknowingly accelerate his vehicle.
That’s the same time 77-year-old Gordon Hardgrave of Quincy was traveling through the intersection just ahead of Martinez. Due to Martinez’s increased speed, he collided with the back of the truck. Both vehicles were able to make their way out of the roadway where both drivers awaited CHP.
It seems this yawn led to more than just a sleepy moment—Martinez will certainly be more wide awake at intersections from now on.
