Quick work from allied agencies knocked down a 2-acre wildfire near High Desert State Prison on Monday evening.
Around 7:43 p.m., fire crews from the prison spotted smoke and quickly responded, calling for more units to assist. The fire grew another quarter acre in size before forward progress was stopped with the assistance of CAL FIRE.
Mop-up and monitoring of the fire continued into the evening.
Triple-digit heat is expected into the weekend; outdoor recreationists are urged to exercise extreme fire safety as surrounding vegetation is quickly drying out. One spark can start a wildfire.
