Local Veterinary hospital issues urgent warning about your pet’s health as cases surge in the region from a newly discovered respiratory illness affecting dogs.
Thompson Peak Veterinary Clinic says there are several Symptoms to watch for:
Coughing or gagging
Sneezing
Runny nose and watery eyes
Difficulty breathing
Reduced appetite
Lethargy
The Vets at Thompson Peak add there are precautionary steps you can take to keep your pet healthy and to curb the spread of the illness. It is advised to avoid areas with heavy dog traffic, such as dog parks, pet stores, and other places where dogs frequently gather.
Thompson Peak also recommends updating your pets’ respiratory vaccines.
The illness, dubbed a “mysterious respiratory illness,” has affected scores of dogs nationwide. Researchers are considering if the cause is a new type of bacterial infection that evades the canine immune system. Although so far rare, few dogs have died from the illness, which starts with a cough that can last for weeks, runny eyes, and sneezing.
If you believe your dog may have these symptoms, you are advised to contact your vet immediately.
