With the holidays around the corner, the United States Postal Service (USPS) says they are ready for the busiest time of the year. Postmaster General and CEO Louis DeJoy expressed confidence in USPS’s readiness following the resounding success of the 2022 peak season.
In 2022, USPS efficiently processed nearly 12 billion mailpieces and packages during the holidays, with an average delivery time of just 2.5 days. This year, the organization has maintained strong service performance, with 98% of the population receiving mail and packages in under three days.
The USPS is also helping you save a little more this holiday season with its decision not to impose any holiday surcharges, ensuring pricing predictability. This encompasses residential area delivery, Saturday delivery, and minimum volumes.
Postmaster General DeJoy says “We understand the importance of every single package and letter that is sent during the holidays, That is why we continue to adapt and execute on strategies to modernize and transform the Postal Service into the high-performing organization the nation expects and deserves.”
Key investments have been made as part of the Delivering for America initiative, including the hiring of 10,000 seasonal employees, the deployment of 348 new package sorting machines, and increased daily processing capacity to about 70 million packages. Furthermore, USPS has transitioned 95% of its volume to a more reliable ground transportation system.
The introduction of USPS Ground Advantage to offer a cost-effective, two-to-five business days ground shipping option across the continental United States.
Postmaster General DeJoy expressed confidence in USPS’s ability to handle the holiday season surge, emphasizing the commitment to delivering the exceptional service the USPS has prided itself on.
