Sierra County Arts Council has announced the selection of two grantees who will participate in the Upstate California Creative Corps program. These artists join 27 partner agencies, 54 lead creative partners, and a total of 1,010 artists and culture bearers supporting initiatives serving California’s least represented peoples, and most vulnerable communities and environments.
Sierra County Arts Council and other Arts Councils across California’s Upstate Region, led by Nevada County Arts Council, has received a total of $3.3 million in grant awards across Northern California.
From Sierra county, Marjorie Voohees, an artist from the Paiute Nation, will create the Headwaters Stained-Glass project, raising awareness about the environmental significance of watersheds originating in Sierra County. The Sierra County Land Trust, in collaboration with nine artists and writers inspired by the Sierra Buttes and Lakes Basin, will publish a book and host an exhibition highlighting the importance of preserving high-elevation forests and watersheds in mitigating climate change impacts.
These projects are part of a larger initiative to support California’s vulnerable communities and environments.
