A tree surveyor falls up to 30 feet into a ravine in Western Sierra County, prompting a swift rescue from multiple agencies.

The Sierra County sheriff’s office said the worker fell mid-afternoon when, around 1:30, emergency services were dispatched to begin the extensive rescue operation.

Rescuers had to hike down to the fall victim to perform medical evaluations and prepare for them to be hoisted by CHP’s helicopter to an awaiting medical transport helicopter.

A representative from Sierra Pacific Industries confirms the surveyor was a third-party contractor working within the SPI forest lands. No further comments could be made.

The condition of the surveyor remains unknown.

The Sierra County Sheriff’s office highlighted that the collaborative response showcased the strength of interagency cooperation and the dedication of first responders.

Those involved in the rescue were the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada County Search and Rescue, Alleghany, Pike, Camptonville, Downieville Fire Departments, the US Forest Service, the California Highway Patrol helicopter, and Care Flight.
