Fire at Sierra City Transfer Site Quickly Contained
On January 22, 2025, at approximately 6:55 PM, the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office dispatch monitored radio traffic from Sierra City Fire Department requesting mutual aid from Downieville Fire Department and the USFS Tahoe National Forest for a wildland fire at the Sierra City Transfer Site.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene and, after consulting with fire personnel, issued an evacuation warning for four residents in the Loganville area, located southwest of the fire. Of the four residences, only one was occupied, and the resident voluntarily evacuated.
By 9:50 PM, fire crews had successfully halted the forward progress of the fire, which was estimated at a couple of acres. Crews continued to work into the night to fully contain and secure the fire perimeter. The cause of the fire is believed to be a burn pile that was reignited by strong winds.
The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend its thanks to the Sierra City Fire Department, Downieville Fire Department, Sierra County Road Department personnel, and the USFS Tahoe National Forest fire personnel for their swift and coordinated response. Their efforts ensured the fire did not cause damage to nearby residences or buildings.
