Firefighters tackled a second spot fire off Skyline Drive near Johnstonville on Thursday afternoon as extreme dry conditions continue to threaten the region. The Susanville Fire Department has responded to several fires this summer, including both vegetation and structure fires. Vegetation fires have mostly been sparked by dry weather and people’s activities, while structure fires stem from electrical issues and unattended cooking.
The department urges residents to be cautious with fire hazards like discarded cigarettes and sparks from power equipment, especially given the high fire risk this season.
