Vehicle Off Roadway Rescue Near Blairsden
At approximately 9:00 AM today, August 16, Plumas County Search and Rescue was paged for a report of a vehicle off a U.S. Forest Service road outside of Blairsden, with reports of moaning or cries for help coming from approximately 500 feet below the vehicle in a ravine.
Plumas SAR responded along with @Graeagle Fire Department, @Eastern Plumas Hospital ambulance crews, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Graeagle Fire and SAR personnel located the reporting party, one of whom was an off-duty Graeagle Fire volunteer, and then located the subject well below the roadway. The subject was fortunate that his calls for help were heard in this remote area.
Eastern Plumas Hospital medics arrived and began treatment. Personnel from Graeagle Fire, the U.S. Forest Service, SAR, and the medical team worked together to carry the subject from the ravine to the waiting ambulance, and then to a @Care Flight helicopter for advanced medical care.
This was a challenging rescue in steep and remote terrain, and a great example of multiple local agencies working together to get a patient from a difficult location to the care they needed. Additional thanks to the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office who responded to take care of a couple of dogs missing their owner while Animal Control was unavailable.
We are grateful to everyone who responded and assisted with this rescue. And a special reminder: in remote areas, letting someone know where you are going and having a way to call for help can make all the difference.
