On August 14, 2026, at approximately 8:24 a.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Quincy Area, responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a loaded log truck and an unloaded log truck, on State Route 70, three miles west of Rush Creek.
The preliminary investigation indicates the male driver of the loaded log truck was traveling eastbound on SR-70, at an undetermined speed. The male driver of the unloaded log truck was traveling westbound on SR-70 at an undetermined speed. For an unknown reason, the driver of the loaded log truck allowed his vehicle to cross the broken yellow line directly into the path of the unloaded log truck and sideswiped the unloaded log truck. After this collision, the loaded log truck collided with the rock wall and the unloaded log truck collided with the guard rail.
The driver of the loaded log truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the death investigation in coordination with the California Highway Patrol’s collision investigation.
