According to the latest from the secretary of state, the state’s Proposition 1 remains too close to call. With just over a quarter of a percent difference, the “yes” votes lead with over 107,000 ballots unprocessed.
Ballotpedia News says “if the margin remains this narrow, Prop 1 will become one of 16 CA statewide measures decided by a margin of less than” half a percent of the vote.
Prop 1 was proposed by the Governor and would require “Counties to change some of the mental health care and drug or alcohol treatment services provided currently to focus more on housing and personalized support services. The state could borrow up to $6.4 billion to build (1) more places where people could get mental health care and drug or alcohol treatment and (2) more housing for people with mental health, drug, or alcohol challenges.
Those who opposed the proposition included Mental Health America of California, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, and CalVoices.
Proponents of Prop 1 had spent nearly 15 million dollars in contributions to support the Yes campaign, with Gov. Newsom’s Ballot Measure Committee being the largest benefactor, contributing 13.6M.
Prop 1 results will be certified by April 12th.
