If you’re heading out on the water this summer, there’s an important change boaters should know about. The California Department of Water Resources says it will end watercraft entrance inspections beginning May 22nd at O’Neill Forebay, San Luis Reservoir, Pyramid Lake, and Castaic Lake and Lagoon.
Exit inspections, however, will still remain in place as officials continue efforts to slow the spread of invasive mussels between waterways.
DWR is also reminding boaters to follow the “Clean, Drain, and Dry” guidelines before moving equipment from one lake to another. That includes removing mud and plants from boats and trailers, draining bilge and ballast water, and allowing equipment to dry completely before relaunching elsewhere. Waiting periods can vary depending on the waterbody.
