Seneca Healthcare District’s (SHD) new hospital project is well underway, following its recent groundbreaking. In an October update released by Seneca, construction teams have been focused on laying the groundwork, including the installation of essential underground infrastructure. Trenches have been excavated to house sewer, water, power, and internet lines, setting a strong foundation for the new facility, which is slated to open its doors in 2027. The construction process, planned to span through 2026, is bringing an influx of heavy equipment and materials to the site, and crews are taking measures to manage dust by regularly spraying water over the work area.

As part of its community engagement, Seneca has created Information Stations around town, providing designated spots where residents can stay informed about the project. SHD is actively sharing updates and upcoming station dates on its Facebook page.

Additionally, SHD recently hosted students from Chester Junior/Senior High School for a special tour of the build site, marking them as the first members of the public to visit the new facility. The event, part of SHD’s ongoing educational outreach, gave students interested in healthcare and construction a firsthand look at the project.

In a bid to support the project further, the Seneca Healthcare Foundation has launched its first line of annual merchandise. Proceeds from the collection directly contribute to the foundation’s initiatives, offering the public a chance to support the new hospital and its future impact on the community.

Looking ahead, the construction team is working against the clock to prepare as much of the site as possible before the winter season. With concrete pouring planned for spring, the coming months are critical for advancing groundwork. The team anticipates that, by 2025, the external framework of the new hospital will take shape with structural steel, roofing, and siding, allowing interior work to continue through winter.
