With the start of the big melt from this year’s impressive snowpack, waterfalls around the region are bringing in scores of visitors, including the already highly popular Burney Falls, yet if traveling in the area, be aware construction season has also begun, and Caltrans has a project that may bring you delays near Burney.

The Burney Capital Preventive Maintenance(CAPM) project will begin this coming Monday, May 22nd. This is an asphalt overlay project that will extend the life of State Route 299 in Shasta County near Burney. The project will begin between Carberry Flat Road, east to Burney Mountain Power Road.
In addition to the asphalt overlay, the project includes upgrading curb ramps, culverts, guardrails to current standards, and drainage work.

The $16 million project includes 120 working days and is expected to be completed in the fall, pending weather and operations.

You can expect one-way traffic control near the project Monday through Friday during daytime hours, with a maximum delay of 16 minutes as work continues. One-way traffic control is anticipated to be in effect throughout the duration of the project.
