Restoration work at Chester Cemetery is progressing as six quaking aspens were planted last month, adding to other recent additions, including maples and spruce trees. These plantings are part of a multi-year effort to rebuild the cemetery landscape, which was severely impacted by the Dixie Fire.
According to Wes Scott, the Chester Cemetery District manager, community support has been instrumental in advancing the project. “It is through the generosity of the community that we can continue our mission of bringing it back to what it was before the fire,” Scott stated, noting that the new trees will take years to mature.
Additionally, the district’s new office building, completed in spring, is now operational, with a grand opening event planned for spring 2025. Scott expressed gratitude for the Almanor Foundation’s role in managing project funding, which has been essential to maintaining progress.
