Regional Fire Updates: Rim Fire Gains Containment, New Point Fire Reported in Modoc National Forest, and Progress on Royal and Shelly Fires

Regional fire updates

The Rim Fire burning in Little Valley continues to gain containment, up to 25% as of July 16, 2024. According to the CalFire incident information page, the fire has had no new growth over the last 24 hours and remains at 1,025 acres.

 

A new start in the Modoc National Forest, the Point fire started around 3:00 PM on Monday, July 15, 2024, near Scorpion Point in the Lava Beds & Tulelake Wildlife Refuge area.

Firefighters, supported by aircraft, made good progress in constructing fire lines to contain the fire. The cause of the fire is unknown, but the area has experienced several thunderstorms.

By 6 pm officials report the fire is mapped at 298 acres. Inci Web Fire Infomation page indicates that the fire is 50% contained.

 

Royal Fire burning in the Tahoe National Forest has had significant progress as of 6 pm Monday,
The fire remains at 215 acres and is now Containment: 95%

 

The Shelly Fire burning in the Marble Mountain Wilderness near Shelly Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail gains 6% containment, crews continue to battle the 15,000 plus acre fire challenged by red flag warnings, and strong canyon winds.
