Quincy VFW  is retiring American Flags that have served their term

Quincy Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a proper disposal ceremony on June 14th, Flag Day of unserviceable flags.

Proper care of the American Flag consists of being cleaned or restored to its original appearance. Regular cleaning of your flag can help expand the life the flag. You can machine wash it with mild detergent, lay it flat to dry or hang it out, and never fold the flag while damp. Mending tattered areas at earlier wear signs helps maintain the flag for longer service.

Normally, the edge furthest from the staff, known as the “fly,” usually shows wear first. The Flag Code suggests retirement of a flag that has served its purpose should only be burned discreetly so the act of destruction is not perceived as a protest.

For those needing a proper Flag retirement, you can drop off your flag on Saturday, May 20th,

at the Quincy Veterans Hall at 274 Lawerence St

from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
