Prescribe Burns

The Mount Hough Ranger District will be burning 6 acres of piles (although map says 16) northeast of Quincy starting today, January 11th. Piles can produce smoke for a few days once ignition is complete.
This project is within a Defensible Fuel Profile Zone and will improve forest health by reintroducing fire to a fire adapted ecosystem. The burn is intended to reduce fuel loading and reduce the number of small diameter trees in the area. Burning of machine piles will only take place on burn days established by the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District. Should weather conditions become unfavorable, burning will cease until conditions become favorable again.
Smoke could have an impact on forest roads in the vicinity of the burn but the area will be posted and traffic control will be provided if necessary. There should be no significant or long-term smoke impacts to surrounding communities.
