The Portola City Council is seeking applicants to fill the vacancy left by Councilmember Pat Morton, who resigned on April 22. Instead of holding a special election, the council chose to appoint a new member.

The council passed Resolution 2646 to honor Morton for her 13 years of service. She served both as a councilmember and as mayor, a role that rotates among councilmembers.

Councilmembers praised Morton for her steady leadership and dedication to the community. They noted her ability to earn respect from staff, colleagues, volunteers, and residents.

Morton led key projects, including the Lake Davis/Willow Springs effort, the merger of Portola’s fire and ambulance services, and the Angel Tree Program. She also contributed to various city and county committees.

Mayor Bill Powers described Morton as a joy to work with on any project.

Morton was unable to attend the meeting to receive her certificate because she was hospitalized in Reno, awaiting surgery.

Mayor Powers expressed well wishes for her recovery.

If you want to serve your community, consider applying for the open council seat. What qualities do you think are important for the next councilmember? How would you contribute to Portola’s future?
