Plumas-Sierra County Fair Looking for this Year’s Theme

The Plumas Sierra County Fair Board is seeking your input to choose a theme for the 2023 fair, scheduled for July 27 to July 30 in Quincy.

Fair Maanger John Steffanic says, choosing a fair theme is never easy, but the fair board hopes to engage the community and find a unique and meaningful theme representing Plumas and Sierra Counties. Steffanic adds that the theme sets the tone for the annual event and guides entries in the Fair Parade and many 4H and FFA projects.

The fair board asks for short and to-the-point ideas that can easily be converted into decorations throughout the fairgrounds and carried through with entertainment. The ideal theme should be part of a colorful piece of artwork for advertising and posters and should be unique to the Plumas Sierra County Fair.

The first theme for the Plumas Sierra County Fair, “Lumbering Progress,” appeared in 1951, and since then, the fair board has considered thousands of ideas. Early themes promoted Plumas County and all it had to offer, but after the ’60s, things became more generic, including “Mountain Magic,” “The Old West at its Best,” and “I Can’t Bear to Miss the Fair.” Nostalgia has always been popular, and rhyming themes are used heavily throughout the fair industry.

Fair enthusiasts who submit the winning theme will receive international recognition and a week-long family pass to the fair, plus one Golden Ticket for the carnival. Ideas can be submitted by mail, in person at the fair office located at 204 Fairground Road in Quincy, or by email at [email protected]. The deadline for entries is April 14.
