Plumas Camping Law Returns to Supervisors, May 9th

Plumas supervisors will revisit a proposed update to the county’s camping law.

With growing concerns for long-term camping, tents, and RVs in residential neighborhoods, the planning commission proposed an ordinance to create a no-camping rule in “prime opportunity areas.” Concerned homeowners voiced disagreement as the new rule would exclude families from camping on their property while visiting. Though Planning Director Tracy Ferguson has said, according to the county’s general plan, camping has never been allowed in residential areas, and the ordinance presents nothing new. It was suggested to the commission to possibly work in a family clause to clarify “use.”

The public hearing for adopting the ordinance, first introduced on April 18th, will be heard tomorrow promptly at 10 am in the supervisor’s chambers in the Quincy courthouse. You can also visit the county website to access the meeting virtually.
