Lassen Board of Supervisors meets tomorrow with a full agenda.

Much of the morning will be filled with public hearings to recover administrative costs for nuisance abatements conducted in North County.

Several property owners in Termo, Ravendale, and Madeline will be held liable for fines imposed by the county for failure to clear their properties of the nuisance.

The board will also consider updating the county ordinance regarding the keeping of animals on properties, following a recommendation from the planning commission.

Notable changes include regulations on keeping animals, specifying minimum lot areas and stables’ locations, and limiting the number of large and small livestock. Density limitations do not apply to targeted grazing lasting up to 30 days per calendar year. Amendments also affect sections related to fertilizer plants, commercial kennels, mini-storage warehouses, and development standards for second housing units. A new provision also addresses the classification of products for hemp cultivation.

Additionally, if you are concerned or interested in learning more about wildlife populations and their effects in Lassen, the supervisors will have a lengthy presentation from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The CDFW will present updates on local wildlife species, including black bear, mountain lion, mule deer, elk, and pronghorn.

The discussion will cover current management practices. Based on the presentation, the board may refer the matter to the Lassen County Fish and Game Commission for further study. At the same time, another session will focus on managing deer populations in urbanized areas, following a similar procedure. Later, a third discussion will be held on the CDFW’s management of the gray wolf, a much-debated topic as livestock managers deem wolves to threaten their livelihoods, while others are proponents of welcoming the predator’s return to the state.

The supervisors’ packed agenda can be found on the county’s website. The board meets at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12th, on Nevada Street in Susanville.
