The Lassen County Office of Education has funded the Sheriff’s Office with 130,000 dollars to continue the department’s Youth Prevention Services. Sheriff Dean Growdon said the program has been highly successful and much needed throughout the schools, focusing primarily on Westwood, Herlong, and Big Valley. The Sheriff adds that the program cuts generational crime prevalent throughout the county through resources and education. The funds from the Office of Ed will help the Sheriff’s office bridge funding gaps to keep the program running through next year when grants become available again.
