East Quincy will begin to see the construction of a new jail, once thought to be realized 5 years ago. In 2017 when Supervisor Hagwood was Sheriff the state granted Plumas County 25 million dollars to build a new jail. Now today that same jail design has been scaled back due to fluctuations in materials and labor costs. Cells have been reconfigured and the facility as a whole is being reduced to accommodate the new budget of 22.3 million dollars. Over 2.4 million will go to the architectural and construction firm hired back in 2017, yet their role will now be to manage the project with the public works department. The new jail will be located next to the current jail on public works property; site preparation is expected to begin by April.
