The public safety crisis continues in Plumas County, with one emergency services personnel warning the Supervisors it is on the verge of collapse.

During the board’s April 18th meeting, Sam Blesse, Chairman of Plumas County Medical Committee, which advises the Board of Supervisors and Emergency Medical Supervisor for Care Flight EMS and Ambulance, says from his perspective, the critical staffing levels in the Sheriff’s office dispatch poses a “clear threat to the community to be able to receive assistance in an expedited manner during an emergency”, as the sheriff’s office is the only public safety answering point in the county. There is no CAL FIRE or other such dispatch center to rely on.

Blesse went on to say the community is frustrated by the perceived inaction of the board, asking for better communication on what is being done to resolve the issue. As Sheriff Johns has also urged the board, Blesse pleaded that they prioritize what is in their control by addressing wages and expediting the hiring process in the county.
