As the colder fall weather sets in, the Modoc National Forest is wrapping up its camping season and extends its gratitude to all visitors who enjoyed the forest’s beauty throughout the spring and summer months. With the changing seasons, the recreation staff has begun winterizing the campgrounds. Below is the schedule for water system shutdowns and dock removals across the forest:
Week of October 14: Water systems were shut down last week at several campgrounds and a day-use area, including Cave Lake Campground, Lily Lake Day Use Area, Patterson Campground & Group Site, East Creek Campground, Pepperdine Campground, Soup Springs Campground, Willow Creek Campground, and the Medicine Lake Recreation Area. The boat dock at Medicine Lake was also removed on Wednesday, October 16.
Week of October 21: Water systems will be shut down at Stough Reservoir, Cedar Pass Ski Area, and Blue Lake Campground. The boat dock at Blue Lake will also be removed.
Week of October 28: The water system will be shut down at Howard’s Gulch Campground, which will be closed for the winter.
Week of November 4: Other campgrounds will have limited or no winter maintenance and fees will no longer be required for the 2024 season.
For those planning winter camping in the Modoc National Forest, after services are discontinued, visitors are reminded to practice “pack it in, pack it out” principles to help maintain the forest’s cleanliness and natural beauty. The recreation staff thanks the public for their cooperation in preserving the forest for future enjoyment.
