Lassen National Forest has a new Acting Forest Supervisor, and it’s someone who knows the area well. Tara Jones, who most recently worked as the District Ranger of the Trinity River and South Fork Management Units at Shasta-Trinity National Forest, is taking on the role. Tara has an extensive background, having been a Timber Sale Contracting Officer for multiple national forests, including Shasta-Trinity, Mendocino, Six Rivers, and Klamath. She also brings over twenty years of experience from her previous work on the Lassen National Forest.
Tara’s roots run deep in Northern California. She grew up in Burney and attended Lassen Community College, where she was active in sports like basketball and softball. Her husband is from Westwood, and together they have raised five children.
In a statement, Tara expressed her excitement about returning to the community and the team at Lassen National Forest. “I’m absolutely thrilled to re-join this community and this team of dedicated public servants and resource stewards here on the Lassen National Forest,” she said. Tara acknowledged the significant impact of recent fires like the Dixie, Bald, and Eiler fires on the landscape, emphasizing the importance of post-fire restoration for local communities and industries.
Tara highlighted the strong local partnerships that will aid in the forest’s restoration and management efforts. She looks forward to collaborating with various stakeholders, including community members, and state, county, local, and tribal governments to support and advance ongoing projects.
