As restoration efforts begin to pick back up, you may see commotion around the Manzanita Lake entrance in the Lassen Volcanic National Park.
The Northwest Gateway, Forest Restoration Project, is restoring forests in the Manzanita Lake and Lost Creek areas. Crews through February are using mechanical treatments to remove selected trees from the site. With a soft blanket of snow covering the ground, the Impact on the land from the equipment and tree removal is low. The project is a multi-year-long effort that includes prescribed burning to thin and restore and maintain fire-adapted forests within the project area.
Restoration of the lands began in 2014; you can learn more by visiting the national park service’s website.
