Lassen Volcanic National Park plans to continue prescribed fire projects in the Mineral Headquarters area through this month.
The projects aim to reduce fuel build-up and mimic historical fire activity for vegetation preservation. The area near park buildings and residential sites has undergone manual thinning to enhance fire resilience. In recent years, approximately 95% of the project area has undergone manual thinning to create a more fire-resistant and resilient fuel landscape. Prescribed fires in this area were last completed nearly a decade ago, in 2016. The park service says this effort help protect infrastructure and other sensitive resources.
